Portland to Portland Route

Our journey begins heading north out of Santa Cruz following the Sierra Cascade route to Portland, Oregon. Once we arrive in Portland we'll turn our wheels east and pedal for Portland, Maine. Here is our planned route across the northern tier of the US. If you know places to stay, sights to see, or good eateries/breweries along this route please post and tell us!

Thanks,
Cruzers

  1. Hello .

If your thinking of going to Bob’s uncle Kens, I have a suggestion. You might be tired from your climb to Crater Lake and may want to avoid the the 97 to Bend, Madras east of the Cascades that can be high desert hot . From Crater Lake look at the junction of the Willamette and The Dalles Highways (58/97 ) . If you take the 58 its only a 200 ft gain to the Williamette Pass. From there is basically a 5,000 ft drop all downhill and downriver to 3 college towns of Eugene U of O, flat to Corvallis OSU, continued flat/downriver to Monmouth WSU, then to McMinnville, Newburg, Wilsonville and on to Kens. Through social networking you could probably find places to stay at U of O, OSU, WSU . From Eugene take the Coburg Rd. to Coburg River rd to Harrisburg. Then take the Peoria rd. to Corvallis. Then the 99W or the Corvallis/Albany rd. to Monmouth. In my youth I traveled these roads over and over on my motorcycle. These are flat, flat, low traffic roads thru beautiful farmlands..

  3. Steve thanks for the advice. Last year we did something similar descending from Crater Lake into Umpqua so I think that was why Matt planned to go further east this time to do something different. But route you suggest is different and also sounds good. We'll see how we feel when we get to Crater Lake and we'll keep the blog updated with whatever we end up doing. Thanks again for the advice.

  6. If you want to see one of the most beautiful sights in this beautiful country of ours, ride through Glacier National Park in Montana. The only thing as beautiful is our California Redwoods. Ride "The Road to the Sun" You will not regret it. It is breath taking.
